Phonics - Week beginning Monday 4th May





This week we are going to be looking at the 'ai'. 'ng' and 'oa' digraphs. 
Monday - 'ai' sound 

To start today's phonics session, we would like you to have a go at going through all of the phase two and phase three sounds that we have learnt. Flashcards Speed Trials

 Then using the following clip we would like you recap the 'ai' digraph The 'ai' sound

 For today's writing activity can you fill in the 'ai' sound and read the words you have made. 

Tuesday - 'ng' sound

To start today's phonics session, we would like you to practise segmenting and blending. On screen you will see a word to read and then you have to match it to the correct image (please select the option for Phase 3 digraphs). Pick a Picture

Then using the following clip we would like you to recap the 'ng' digraph The 'ng' sound

For the writing activity today, can you add the correct letter to create the right word, use the images to help you. 


Wednesday - 'oa' sound

Today we are going to start our phonics session by playing Rocket Rescue. To play this game, you have to listen to the word and try and type the sounds you hear. 

 Then, use the following clip to recap the 'oa' sound The 'oa' sound

 To finish today's phonics session, we would like you to have a go at the below 'oa' activities. 


Thursday - Trick words 

First, rehearse our Phase 3- Tricky Word Song.

Then have a go at Tricky Word Trucks on Phonics Play. (Revise phase two and three)

Finally, for our writing challange today I would like you to write three sentences with one tricky word in each, please use the below tricky words:

  1. we
  2. my
  3. all

Here are this weeks numeracy tasks.  Monday - Exploring number bonds within 10.  Using your ten-frame that was included in your home learning pack (or you could draw one on some paper) can you explore what numbers make 10.   Can you list all of the different number sentences to make ten? (see below example) 3+7=10 *Please note you can work within five if your child is struggling with ten.  Tuesday - Using the below as a guide, can your child complete the following for numbers 1-10.  For example:  Wednesday -  Coin challenge  Ask your grown up if you can count the coins they have? How many are 1p coins?  Can you create and write a number sentence? Thursday -  Whose shoes? Can you find 4 different sized shoes in your house and put them in order of size?
